Grundliggende
I Elvenar er der 5 enheder for hver specifik race der kan oplåses og trænes i kasernen. Begge racer har også 10 delte enheder som kan oplåses og trænes i Træningsområdet og Lejesoldaternes lejr. Både enhederne for elverne og menneskene har ens styrke, men deres taktiske stil er en smule forskellige. Begge racer begynder med en let nærkampsenhed. Hovedforskellen imellem elvere og mennesker for disse enheder er at mennesker gør større skade, men har svagere forsvar, imens elvernes er mere balancerede.
Begge racer får også adgang til lette afstandsenheder, magikere, tunge nærkampsenheder og tunge afstandsenheder senere hen.
Oveni vil besøg i provinser på verdenskortet, give dig mulighed for at opdage andre enheder, som du kan kæmpe imod. Disse fjendtlige enheder er meget afhængig af provins og dennes afstand fra din by.
Undtagen den første enhed, som oplåses når du oplåser kasernen, skal alle andre enheder oplåses med en seperat teknologi i forskningstræet. Du kan også forbedre alle dine enheders teknikker ved at forske den tilhørende 'forfremmelse'.

Enhedsklasser
I Elvenar finder du 5 enhedsklasser: Let nærkampsenhed, let afstandsenhed, tung nærkampsenhed, tung afstandsenhed og magiker.
Hver klasse har bestemte enheder tildelt. For eksempel: imens sværddansere, øksebarbarer, kerberos og oldtids orker er forskellige enheder, så tilhører de alle den samme klasse: Let nærkampsenhed. De er alle lette nærkampskæmpere, så selv om de har forskellige kampstrategier, har de lignende værdier for livspoint og skade.
Specielle evner
Nogle enheder har specielle evner til at sænke modstanderens parader, som vil øge skaden imod dem af de følgende enheder. Andre har kraften til at reducere fjendens angrebsstyrke for at kunne beskytte dine enheder. Disse evner kan stables ovenpå hinanden for at gøre mere skade eller tage mindre.
